At ImOn Communications, we take pride in being a part of the Cedar Rapids and Marion communities.  ImOn believes in giving back to the communities we service through donations of time, resources and sponsorships to local organizations and events.

During National Random Act of Kindness Week, February 10 - 16, 2014, ImOn employees were asked to carry out a random act of kindness during their normal work day.  The goal of participating in Random Act of Kindness week was to create a culture of kindness and to take the time to realize a small act of kindness really does go a long way.  Below is a list showing the many ways ImOn employees passed on some kindness to our customers and our community.

ImOn Communications donates $1000 Scholarship to Mount Mercy University

Students Naomi Fisher and Rachel Vaughn each took a half-court shot at a $1,000 scholarship during the men’s basketball game against St. Ambrose on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014.

During the fall 2013 semester, Mount Mercy University’s student alumni group Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow (S.T.A.T.) offered students a chance at winning one of two scholarships if they participated in an athletic attendance punch card initiative, and could sink a shot from Hennessey’s half-court. Fisher and Vaughn, both nursing students, were randomly drawn as the finalists.

Thanks to the sponsorships of ImOn Communications and Kirk Sadilek with Principal Financial Group, both ladies walked off the court with $1,000 gifts toward their education –even though both shots missed the hoop. “One of the most important parts of being a local provider and consistent with our mission is giving back to the communities we serve,” said Abbie Patterson, ImOn Marketing and PR Coordinator. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to support the University and the students.”

“It meant a lot to know that a university cared about its students so much that they would give the money to them even though the rules were explicit on making the shot in order to get the scholarship. I have nothing but pride for Mount Mercy and being a Mustang,” said Ms. Fisher.

“Whether the students made the half-court shots or not, our sponsors wanted to make sure that they walked away with their scholarships,” said Josie Takes, alumni relations coordinator. “Naomi and Rachel were great sports, and S.T.A.T. is happy they will have a little extra money to help with their education costs.”

“This gift makes my dreams of studying abroad in Italy next semester and graduating with a nursing degree next spring so much more realistic,” said Ms. Vaughn. “I cannot express my gratitude enough!”

ImOn Communications employees proudly donated 4,395 food items and $1,644 to HACAP’s Eastern Iowa Freedom from Hunger donation drive.  Through our donations of money and food we were able to help provide 7,195 meals for local families in need!

We’re were excited to partner with EIFFH again this year to collect donations for the HACAP food reservoir which then goes out to food pantries, emergency shelters and other partner agencies

Hunger is a real issue in our area. Area pantries face more than 10,000 requests for assistance each month. A few quick facts:
- 50% of the food insecure population in HACAP’s 7-county service area do not qualify for federal nutrition programs and often must rely on charitable food assistance programs.
- Most food pantry users hold a college degree.
- 12.5% of the population in the HACAP Food Reservoir’s service area is food insecure. That’s 54,550 individuals.

EIFFH raised 148,386 meals in 2012. This year’s goal is 200,000. What can YOU do to help?

ImOn Employees Help Escort WWII Veterans

Three ImOn employees proudly rode with the Warrior's Watch Riders, who helped escort WWII veterans from Marshalltown to Cedar Rapids as they prepared to take part in the Honor Flight to Washington D.C.  There was a send off parade Monday in Marshalltown, where people lined the streets to honor the veterans at the beginning of their journey.  Anyone on Highway 30 saw a mile long procession of motorcycles, Corvettes, and police cars as they were escorted to Cedar Rapids where they flew out of the Cedar Rapids Airport Tuesday morning.  They will spend the day in Washington D.C. touring war memorials before returning to Cedar Rapids  around 10:15.

ImOn Donates to Cedar Valley Humane Society

ImOn's Customer Care Department proudly donated $250.00 to the Cedar Valley Humane Society.  After meeting their March goals, the staff decided instead of receiving a reward, they would make a donation to a local organization.  ImOn's Customer Care Department works hard every day to provide excellent customer service for our customers, this is another way they show how much they care about the community ImOn serves.

"The Customer Care group was passionate about giving to the Humane Society and their giving won't stop with this.  They are working on other ways to stay involved with the organization.  I couldn't be more proud of this team!" Chelsey McDill--Manager Customer Care

Founded in 1901, the Cedar Valley Humane Society helps place thousands of animals into new adoptive homes and returns hundreds of lost pets to their owners every year.  Not affiliated with any other agency or organization, they rely solely on private donations for everything they do.

He has since woken up and is at home recovering with his family and lots of Christmas card greetings!

Tanager Adopt a Family

ImOn adopted a family this holiday season with Tanager Place and collected gifts for an entire family. Employees and staff enthusiastically shopped and wrapped presents for the family to open Christmas morning.

"This is a great way to make Christmas a little brighter for a family who is less fortunate." - Jeff Janssen, Director of Sales and Marketing.

Meals on Wheels

Once a month ImOn employees deliver hot, nutritious meals to older adults with Horizons Meals on Wheels.

ImOn believes in giving back to the community we serve and volunteering with Meals on Wheels is a great way to do that. ImOn employees who have never volunteered before discovered the power of giving back through connecting with the recipients of these meals. This has been such a rewarding experience for our employees.

"This was a great volunteer experience and opened my eyes to how easy it is to give back to the community I live and work in. Being able to give back like this is so rewarding.

The people we delivered to were so thankful. It  made me realize how much of a difference one meal could make to someone. It wasn’t just the food either; it was knowing that someone cared about their well being.

Even after volunteering only once to deliver meals, I could see how much of an impact it made on the local community, and we can’t wait to volunteer again."
