ImOn Communications Begins Neighborhood Fiber Internet Construction in Superior Following Initial City Permit Approval

Back to News

This privately funded $20 million investment will bring fiber Internet to approximately 15,000 homes and businesses while supporting local community organizations.

ImOn Communications announced today that neighborhood construction has officially begun in Superior following the city's approval of permits for the company's first neighborhood construction section.

Construction crews began work on June 25, marking the next phase of ImOn's privately funded fiber expansion project that will bring state-of-the-art fiber Internet service to approximately 15,000 homes and businesses across Superior.

The project represents a $20 million private investment in Superior's future, with no cost to local taxpayers for network construction.

"We're excited to officially begin neighborhood construction and deliver on our commitment to invest in Superior," said Kirby Underberg, Vice President and General Manager of ImOn's Great Lakes Region. "We appreciate the city's collaboration in helping us reach this important milestone and look forward to continuing to work together as additional neighborhood permits move through the approval process. Our shared goal is bringing world-class fiber infrastructure to the residents and businesses of Superior as quickly and efficiently as possible."

In preparation for construction, ImOn has already completed several key infrastructure milestones, including railroad crossing work and construction of the company's local network hub. With neighborhood construction now underway, crews will continue expanding the fiber network throughout the community as additional permit approvals are received.

ImOn currently anticipates completing construction to approximately 15,000 Superior homes and businesses by the end of 2026, subject to the pace of ongoing neighborhood permit approvals.

Beyond investing in fiber infrastructure, ImOn has also committed $50,000 through its ImOn Gives program to support local nonprofits, community organizations, and initiatives throughout the Superior area.

"At ImOn, we're investing in far more than fiber infrastructure," Underberg added. "We're investing in the long-term success of Superior. We believe strong communities deserve strong connectivity, and we're committed to becoming an active community partner for years to come."

Residents will begin seeing construction activity in neighborhoods throughout the city as crews expand the network. Once fiber construction is completed in a neighborhood, residents and businesses will be notified when service is available and they are able to schedule installation.

Superior residents can learn more about the project, construction updates, and sign up to receive service notifications by visiting ImOn.net/GetFiber.
